Wilmington native, writer Don Payne has passed away…
Don Payne, a graduate of New Hanover High School and co-executive producer of “The Simpsons” and “Thor” has left us. He was an award-winning script writer/producer. Payne passed at his home in Los Angeles on Tuesday, at the age of 48. The cause, according to friends was cancer.
Payne was a UCLA graduate who joined The Simpsons at Fox and won four primetime Emmys with the show. He was credited for writing 16 episodes and in 2005 won the Writers Guild Paul Selvin Award.
Payne was honored here at home on the Wilmington Walk of Fame as well as a tribute to him inside The Cotton Exchange downtown.
Payne is survived by his wife and three children.
