20mill1I spoke with writer, director, actor, and producer of the film Twenty Million People, Michael Ferrell today. Michael graduated Hoggard in 1996, where he did a lot of theatre and won some theatre competitions around the state.

He also has some pretty impressive accomplishments as a playwright. Among numerous plays to his credit, Michael wrote the play Jersey Shore House, produced most recently in L.A. starring Don Stark from That 70′s Show and previously in NYC starring Tony Award winner Beth Leavel. He received his BFA in Acting from UNCG, lived in Chicago for a year where he studied improv comedy, and has lived in New York City for over ten years, doing film, theatre and web series.

Michael tells me his family still lives in Wilmington and says he gets back for visits a few times a year.  He will be here this weekend for the screening of Twenty Million People at the Cape Fear Independent Film Festival at The Browncoat Pub & Theater in downtown Wilmington on Saturday May 11th at 1:00pm.

Michael and co-producers, Chris Prine, and Devin Sanchez made the romantic comedy on a half a shoestring budget raised on Indiegogo. With just $10,000 they got it “in the can” in just 12 days and it’s already a winner at the Garden State Film Festival.

20mil2Michael’s girlfriend Devin, who also stars in the full length feature is no stranger to Wilmywood herself, having worked on Safe Haven as a stunt double.

The film has been wowing audiences across the country on the festival circuit and Michael says “I look forward to the reaction in my hometown.” He will be in attendance along with Devin Sanchez.
